Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Zeul is developed and published by Raunak Patil and Ghanshyam Paunikar, independent developers based in India ("we", "us"). For any privacy question or request, contact us at zeulwallpapers@gmail.com. This address also serves as our grievance contact under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
2. What we collect
| Data | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account details: email address, and your name and profile photo if you sign in with Google | Only if you create an account | Sign-in, syncing favourites across devices |
| Favourites and unlocked wallpapers | Stored on your device; also on our servers if you're signed in | So they're there when you come back |
| Usage events: which wallpapers you view, download, set or favourite, with a random install ID generated by the app | While you use the app | Download counts, "Popular" rankings, abuse prevention, and (if signed in) "For You" recommendations |
| Style preferences: tags you pick during onboarding, and interest scores we derive from your activity | If you're signed in (otherwise only on your device) | Personalised "For You" suggestions |
| Search terms | When you search | Stored without any account or device link, to learn which wallpapers people are looking for |
| Reports you send about a wallpaper, with your install ID (and account, if signed in) | Only if you report something | Reviewing copyright or content complaints |
| Advertising data: advertising ID, IP address, device and app information, ad interactions | Free users, when ads load | Collected by Google AdMob to show and measure ads (see section 4) |
| Subscription data: which plan you bought, trial and renewal status, and an app user ID (your account ID if you're signed in, otherwise a random ID). We never see your card or payment details | Only if you subscribe or restore purchases | Unlocking Premium on your devices, through Google Play Billing and RevenueCat (see section 4) |
| Notification data: a push token for your device and the notification topics you're subscribed to (new wallpapers, daily wallpaper) | If notifications are on | Sending the notifications you chose, through Firebase Cloud Messaging. You can turn each one off in the app or in Android settings |
We do not access your photos, contacts, location, camera or microphone. The app saves wallpapers you choose to download to your gallery and sets your wallpaper only when you ask it to.
3. How we use it
- To run the app: show wallpapers, keep your favourites, count downloads, remember unlocks.
- To personalise the "For You" feed from the tags of wallpapers you like (only if you're signed in or picked styles).
- To keep the service safe: rate-limit abuse and review reported content.
- To show ads to free users, which pay for the free wallpapers.
Legal bases (where GDPR applies): contract for account features, consent for personalised ads, and legitimate interests for statistics, recommendations and security. Under the DPDP Act we process personal data on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
4. Service providers we share data with
| Provider | Purpose | Their policy |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, sign-in and server functions that store the data in section 2 | supabase.com/privacy |
| Google AdMob and the User Messaging Platform | Showing ads and collecting ad consent | How Google uses data from apps |
| Google Play Billing | Processing subscription payments (Google handles all payment details) | Google Payments privacy notice |
| RevenueCat | Checking which subscription you have and sharing it across your devices. Receives your app user ID and purchase history from Google Play | revenuecat.com/privacy |
| Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) | Delivering push notifications | firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
| Google Sign-In | Optional sign-in with your Google account | policies.google.com/privacy |
| GitHub Pages | Hosting the wallpaper image files. Your device downloads images from it, which exposes your IP address to GitHub | GitHub privacy statement |
We don't sell personal data, and we don't share it with anyone else except where required by law.
5. Ads and your choices
Free users see ads, including optional "watch an ad to unlock" videos. Google may use your advertising ID to show personalised ads. If you're in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before any ad is requested, and you can change it later from Profile → Privacy settings in the app. Anyone can reset or delete their advertising ID in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.
6. How long we keep data
- Usage events: automatically deleted after 90 days.
- Search terms: automatically deleted after 180 days.
- Daily per-wallpaper totals (which contain no personal data): up to 400 days.
- Account, favourites, unlocks and preferences: until you delete your account.
- Reports: as long as needed to handle the complaint.
7. Your rights and deleting your data
You can access, correct or delete your personal data, withdraw consent, and (where GDPR applies) object to processing or request a copy of your data.
- In the app: Profile → Delete account permanently deletes your account, favourites, unlocks and style preferences, on our servers and on that device. Your past usage events are kept only in anonymised form (unlinked from you) until they expire. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription: cancel it in Google Play first. Google and RevenueCat keep purchase records as required for billing, tax and fraud prevention.
- Without the app: follow the steps on our account deletion page.
- Anything else: email zeulwallpapers@gmail.com. We reply within 30 days.
If you're unhappy with our answer, you can complain to your data protection authority (in India, the Data Protection Board of India).
8. Security
Data travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Database access is restricted so each user can only read their own private data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will notify you as the law requires if a breach affects you.
9. Children
Zeul is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.
10. Changes
We'll update this page when our practices change, update the date at the top, and tell you in the app about important changes.
